About this role

Formic seeks a hands-on Robotics Field Service Engineer to diagnose, maintain, and restore deployed robotic manufacturing systems across customer facilities in the San Francisco Bay Area. You'll be the primary technical contact for uptime-critical automation, combining troubleshooting discipline with direct customer support and preventative maintenance.

What you'll do

  • Diagnose and resolve failures in deployed robotic cells through remote escalation and on-site troubleshooting
  • Perform preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance on industrial robotic systems
  • Document service activity, root cause analysis, and maintenance records in CMMS platforms
  • Provide technical guidance to customer operators and maintenance teams on system operation and troubleshooting
  • Monitor fleet performance using Formic dashboards and identify recurring failure patterns for systemic improvement
  • Coordinate field scheduling with customers, vendors, and internal stakeholders while adhering to safety standards

What they're looking for

  • Industrial automation troubleshooting (electrical, mechanical, PLC, robotic controls)
  • Reading electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and pneumatic drawings
  • CMMS platform experience and service documentation
  • 6-axis robot programming or operation (Fanuc, KUKA, Yaskawa, ABB, Universal Robots preferred)
  • Root cause analysis and preventative maintenance methodology
  • Professional communication and customer-facing support
  • Safety compliance including LOTO and industrial standards
  • Palletizing, case packing, pick-and-place, or conveyor system experience (bonus)
