Mechanical Controls Engineer, Special Projects
About this role
Hadrian seeks a Mechanical Controls Engineer for its Special Projects division to design and commission advanced automated manufacturing systems for aerospace and defense applications. You'll lead electrical and controls design, develop PLC applications, integrate industrial robots and sensors, and oversee onsite commissioning for custom automation work centers.
What you'll do
- Lead electrical and controls design for automated manufacturing systems including CNC, robotic, and tooling cells
- Develop and maintain PLC applications using Beckhoff TwinCAT 3 or Siemens TIA Portal
- Integrate and commission industrial robots and sensors using protocols like EtherCAT, PROFINET, and OPC-UA
- Design and debug control panels to NFPA 79 and UL 508A standards
- Design HMI interfaces for manufacturing systems
- Perform onsite commissioning, troubleshooting, and mentor junior engineers

- PLC programming (IEC 61131-3) and motion control
- TwinCAT 3 or TIA Portal expertise
- Industrial robot integration (ABB, Fanuc, Yaskawa, Kuka)
- Electrical systems design and industrial safety standards
- Sensor integration and risk assessment (ISO 13849, ANSI B11)
- Complex system troubleshooting and root cause analysis
- Machine vision systems (optional: Zivid, LMI, Keyence, Cognex)
- High-level programming languages like C# or Python
