Software Engineer, Firmware

Garden Grove, CAFrom $160kmidAdded today

About this role

Harbinger seeks a skilled Firmware Software Engineer to develop deterministic, real-time firmware for electric vehicle motor control systems. You'll design bare-metal and RTOS-based solutions, optimize control algorithms like Field-Oriented Control, and collaborate across hardware and software teams to deliver high-performance EV powertrains.

What you'll do

  • Design and implement bare-metal and RTOS firmware for motor control systems with nanosecond-level determinism
  • Configure Board Support Packages (BSPs) and write low-level hardware drivers for microcontroller optimization
  • Deploy and tune high-frequency control algorithms including Field-Oriented Control (FOC)
  • Optimize CPU efficiency, interrupt latency, and memory footprints to meet performance and safety targets
  • Perform rigorous testing and validation using real-time simulation and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) environments
  • Collaborate with hardware, application software, and power electronics teams on system integration

What they're looking for

  • Embedded firmware development (3+ years)
  • C/C++ for resource-constrained embedded systems
  • ARM Cortex-M microcontroller development
  • Motor control algorithms and Field-Oriented Control (FOC)
  • Digital signal processing (DSP) and control theory
  • PID tuning and real-time systems optimization
  • Communication protocols (CAN, SPI, I2C, UART)
  • Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing and debugging
