About this role
Hatch is seeking an AI Engineer to design and build production systems powering Voice and Text AI agents that handle customer interactions across calls, SMS, and email. You'll own the full stack—from prompt engineering and tool integrations to observability and reliability—directly impacting customer revenue in a fast-moving, ownership-driven culture.
What you'll do
- Design and own end-to-end systems for Voice AI and Text AI agents handling calls, SMS, and email conversations
- Craft system-level prompts and develop tool-calling integrations for reliable real-world actions like booking and data lookups
- Build LLM-as-a-judge evaluations and observability dashboards to measure agent performance and catch regressions
- Partner with product and design to balance user needs, business goals, and technical trade-offs
- Lead projects from specification to launch, applying engineering practices like code review, testing, CI/CD, and feature flags
- Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence
What they're looking for
- Production LLM experience (prompt engineering, function calling, agent orchestration)
- Backend development in Elixir, Go, Python, or comparable languages
- Full-stack capability across data models, APIs, and UI
- Project leadership and cross-team collaboration
- Observability and evaluation framework design
- Clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Staying current with evolving AI capabilities and tools
- Ownership mindset and bias for action
Benefits
