About this role

Hatch is seeking an AI Engineer to design and build production systems powering Voice and Text AI agents for service businesses. You'll own agent infrastructure, prompt engineering, tool integrations, and observability while working across a modern stack in a fast-moving, ownership-driven culture.

What you'll do

  • Design and own end-to-end systems for Voice AI and Text AI agents handling calls, SMS, and emails
  • Craft system-level prompts and evaluate agent behavior, reliability, and outcomes in production
  • Build tool-calling integrations enabling agents to safely perform real-world actions like booking and data lookup
  • Develop LLM-as-a-judge evaluations and observability dashboards to measure performance and catch regressions
  • Partner with product and design to balance user needs, business goals, and technical trade-offs
  • Mentor junior engineers and maintain engineering practices including testing, CI/CD, and progressive delivery

  • Production LLM experience (prompt engineering, function calling, evaluation frameworks)
  • Backend development in Elixir, Go, Python, or comparable languages
  • Full-stack capability from data modeling through APIs and UI
  • Project leadership from specification to launch with multiple contributors

  • Clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders
