About this role

We’re a team of friends bound together by a mission to preserve our planet for future generations through innovative energy solutions and modern infrastructure. Intersect develops, constructs, and operates the most ambitious power and data center infrastructure in the country by co-locating industrial demand with dedicated gas and renewable power generation.

Intersect was acquired by Google in March 2026 and operates as an independent subsidiary. We are developing and constructing multiple gigawatts of energy and data center projects in the U.S., enabling more data center and generation capacity to come online faster. We’re on an aggressive growth trajectory and looking for people hungry to tackle the largest energy challenges on the planet.

Location & Team Gatherings

Intersect has been a fully flexible workplace since its founding in 2016. We’ve been very intentional about the way we do things. We are not work-from-home, hybrid, or in-office - we are any and all of those options! Deepening social connections and offering shared experiences is a cornerstone of the way we work. We connect as a team at our Team Week experiences four times a year and at our recently established Hub locations - SF Bay Area, NYC Metro Area, NY; Denver, CO; Austin, TX; Calgary, AB; and Toronto, ON.

We are currently looking for candidates located within 60 miles of any of the listed hubs to foster more in-person connections while maintaining our flexible remote culture.

About this role

As a Power Developer on Intersect's Development team, you'll drive the strategy, commercial structuring, and end-to-end execution of utility-scale clean energy, storage, natural gas, and co-located load projects across key U.S. markets. You will own projects from early-stage siting and commercial strategy through construction handover—framing complex technical and economic tradeoffs, managing project valuation models, and negotiating critical commercial agreements. Partnering closely with internal subject matter experts and external partners, you'll solve multifaceted infrastructure challenges to deliver de-risked, high-impact assets that generate long-run value.

Initially, you will spearhead our strategic initiative to deploy on-site bridging power solutions across more than 25 Google data center sites nationwide, alongside advancing our core Intersect power portfolio. You will lead the commercial and technical integration of natural gas pipelines, battery energy storage systems, and thermal power generation to provide reliable, rapid-deployment alternatives to traditional grid interconnection. This role is planned to start on December 2026, with a training period of 4 weeks to reach full productivity by January 2027.

Team overview

This team plays a critical role in advancing Intersect's mission to accelerate the clean energy transition. The Development team serves as the central engine for growth, identifying high-value regional opportunities and transforming land, industrial load demand, and market signals into fully operational, utility-scale power and data center infrastructure. Joining this team means taking end-to-end ownership of ambitious, first-of-their-kind energy assets while collaborating with deeply experienced industry specialists in an agile, high-trust environment.

What you'll do

Drive End-to-End On-Site Power and Portfolio Development

  • Lead the development of on-site bridging power solutions across 25+ Google data center sites nationwide, as well as utility-scale solar, wind, battery storage, and natural gas projects within Intersect's core portfolio.

  • Evaluate site-specific feasibility, gas pipeline routing, fuel supply logistics, and air/environmental permitting risks, framing clear commercial and technical tradeoffs for senior leadership and investment committees.

  • Advance projects systematically from initial concept and market entry through final investment decision and construction handover.

Lead Technical Integration and Infrastructure Structuring

  • Manage the technical and commercial integration of natural gas pipelines, thermal bridging generation, and battery storage systems to deliver high-reliability power tailored to hyper-scale data center load profiles.

  • Partner with internal engineering teams, OEMs, and EPC contractors to align equipment procurement, interconnection alternatives, and behind-the-meter system architecture with strict project timelines.

Own Commercial Execution and Financial Modeling

  • Build and maintain comprehensive financial and valuation models in Excel to evaluate project economics, capex/opex profiles, fuel transport economics, and transaction structures.

  • Lead commercial negotiations for key project agreements, including natural gas pipeline precedent agreements, lateral construction contracts, equipment supply, real estate, and utility or offtake terms.

Steer Cross-Functional Delivery and Project Governance

  • Coordinate multidisciplinary internal SMEs—spanning engineering, environmental permitting, legal, finance, and origination—alongside external engineering and regulatory consultants to keep multi-site development pipelines on schedule.

  • Manage project development budgets, critical-path schedules, and milestone tracking tools to maintain rigorous operational discipline across concurrent high-priority sites.

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • 5-10 years of hands-on project development experience across utility-scale power generation, natural gas infrastructure, or oil and gas, or 5-10 years of commercial/project engineering experience with a major EPC, power systems OEM, or energy infrastructure consultancy.

  • Proven track record developing or integrating natural gas pipelines, thermal bridge power generation, and battery energy storage systems (BESS), ideally supporting large industrial or data center loads.

  • Demonstrated mastery of Excel-based project financial modeling, commercial contract structuring, and economic risk assessment across regulated and deregulated U.S. energy markets.

  • Ability to synthesize complex technical integration requirements—spanning gas supply, generation dispatch, and electrical interconnection—into actionable commercial development plans.

  • Track record of leading cross-functional teams through high-stakes negotiations, tight permitting timelines, and complex development milestones with autonomy and rigor.

  • Strong alignment with Intersect's core values of Equity, Humility, Authenticity, Long-run Value, and People Come First.
