Backend Engineer, Flag Delivery

About this role

LaunchDarkly seeks a Backend Engineer to join the Flag Delivery team, building and operating critical backend services that power real-time data delivery at scale. You'll work on distributed systems with a senior team, focusing on production reliability, debugging, and modernization while leveraging AI as part of your engineering workflow.

What you'll do

• Build and improve backend services powering flag delivery systems and SDKs
• Debug production issues and enhance service reliability, latency, and availability
• Work with distributed systems patterns including caching, concurrency, and cloud infrastructure
• Collaborate with SDK, Platform, SRE, Security, and Enterprise teams on platform improvements
• Participate in on-call rotation and own the systems you build
• Learn existing architecture and make pragmatic improvements to clarity and performance

• Backend software engineering (5+ years production experience)
• Go, Java, Rust, or similar backend languages
• Distributed systems fundamentals (caching, concurrency, failure modes)
• Production debugging and observability tools
• AI integration in engineering workflows with sound judgment
• System architecture and reasoning about code behavior
• Cross-team collaboration and communication
• On-call and production support
