Electrical Engineer, Actuator test infrastructure

San Francisco (Remote)$225k–$295kfulltimemidAdded today

About this role

Design and own the electrical infrastructure for robotic actuator test cells, including motor drives, power distribution, instrumentation, and safety systems. This hands-on role combines lab execution with system architecture to enable reliable, scalable testing of high-performance actuators.

What you'll do

  • Design and own electrical architecture for dynamometer test cells, from power distribution through motor drives and auxiliary systems
  • Specify, integrate, and commission motor drives and load machines for actuator performance and durability testing
  • Design power distribution, grounding, shielding, and cabling for high-current and precision measurement systems
  • Integrate sensors (torque, position, temperature, current, vibration) into DAQ and control systems
  • Develop schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and test-cell interface documentation
  • Design safety circuits including E-stops, interlocks, safe torque off, and fault detection

What they're looking for

  • Motor drives and servo systems
  • Power electronics and distribution
  • Electrical safety design and compliance
  • Grounding, shielding, and EMI/EMC
  • Data acquisition and instrumentation
  • Electrical schematic and CAD design
  • Hands-on debugging and troubleshooting
  • Cross-functional collaboration (mechanical, software, controls)

Likely interview questions

  • Describe your experience designing or commissioning motor drive systems for testing applications—what challenges did you face with noise, EMI, or signal integrity?
  • Walk us through how you would approach grounding and shielding design for a system that needs both high-current power delivery and precision low-level sensor measurements.
