OpenAI seeks an Optical Interconnect System Engineer to architect and deploy scalable fiber-optic connectivity for large-scale AI infrastructure. This role bridges optical design, mechanical integration, testing, and field deployment across supercomputing systems, requiring hands-on expertise in high-density fiber systems and cross-functional collaboration.
What you'll do
- Define optical interconnect architectures and system requirements for hardware platforms and rack-level infrastructure
- Design high-density fiber systems optimized for performance, density, reliability, installation, and serviceability
- Lead optical-mechanical integration efforts and drive cross-functional design reviews
- Develop and execute test and qualification plans for optical components, modules, and integrated systems
- Manage optical loss budgets, routing guidelines, handling specifications, and serviceability standards
- Support system deployment, troubleshooting, failure analysis, and long-term reliability improvement
