PCB Layout Engineer, Robotics

San Francisco (Remote)$318k–$485kfulltimemidAdded today

About this role

OpenAI seeks an experienced PCB Layout Engineer to design complex, high-density circuit boards for next-generation robotic systems. You'll manage the complete layout lifecycle—from floor planning to fabrication release—while collaborating with electrical, signal integrity, mechanical, and manufacturing teams in San Francisco.

What you'll do

  • Own PCB layout, component placement, routing, and fabrication release for complex robotic electronics
  • Partner with SI/PI engineers to refine designs based on simulation and analysis results
  • Implement high-speed routing, impedance control, power distribution, thermal management, and EMI/EMC requirements
  • Coordinate with fabricators and assembly partners on stack-ups, design rules, DFM/DFA/DFT reviews, and manufacturing documentation
  • Prepare fabrication and assembly files including ODB++, drill files, stack-up tables, and design notes
  • Maintain component library assets and develop reusable design constraints and layout workflows

What they're looking for

  • Cadence Allegro PCB Designer and Constraint Manager
  • HDI PCB design (fine-pitch BGAs, microvias, blind/buried vias, via-in-pad, sequential lamination)
  • Signal and power integrity (return paths, differential pairs, length matching, crosstalk)
  • High-speed interface routing (PCIe, DDR, USB, Ethernet, MIPI)
  • PCB fabrication coordination and DFM expertise
  • SI/PI simulation tools (Cadence Sigrity or Ansys SIwave preferred)
  • IPC standards and design documentation
  • Cross-functional communication with hardware and manufacturing teams
