About this role
Oura seeks a Supplier Development Engineer to lead manufacturing process development and supplier qualification for brittle materials (ceramics, sapphire, glass) in their wearable hardware. You'll collaborate across design and quality teams to optimize processes from concept through mass production, ensuring cost-effective, reliable, and cosmetically superior components.
What you'll do
- Define and optimize manufacturing processes for ceramic, sapphire crystal, and glass components meeting design and operational requirements
- Partner with Quality, Material, and Design engineers to balance cost, aesthetics, reliability, and fracture resistance
- Drive global suppliers through process establishment and optimization, including CIM, sintering, CNC grinding, polishing, and coating operations
- Lead Design for Manufacturing reviews and set brittle-material-specific acceptance criteria for defects and edge integrity
- Use statistical data (Cpk, GD&T, strength testing) to inform process and design decisions
- Provide on-site support during development and production ramp, resolving brittle-material-specific issues like cracking and thermal shock
