Design Engineer
About this role
Rho is seeking a Lead or Staff Design Engineer to own the feel and polish of their banking platform—motion, microinteractions, animations, and transitions that build trust. You'll write production code (React, TypeScript, CSS) to craft interactions that feel inevitable, then build the systems and libraries that let the team maintain that standard without you.
What you'll do
- Design and implement animations, transitions, and microinteractions that define the product's feel and user trust
- Build reusable animation primitives, interaction libraries, and component systems that set the craft standard
- Ship production-quality code in React/TypeScript; use Figma for exploration, not final craft decisions
- Define and encode motion principles—easing curves, timing, springs, tokens—into a cohesive system
- Mentor and raise the craft bar for the broader team through systems and exemplary work
- Obsess over details: half-pixels, timing precision, focus states, and interactions no one explicitly asks for
