About this role

Saronic Technologies seeks a Structural Build Engineer to oversee the design, fabrication, and assembly of autonomous surface vessels. You'll bridge engineering teams in Austin and shipyard operations in Franklin, managing structural components, resolving construction issues, and ensuring compliance with maritime standards.

What you'll do

  • Design and analyze ship structural components including hulls, bulkheads, decks, and foundations; generate cutfiles for CNC cutting
  • Act as liaison between engineering, drafting, and production teams to resolve technical challenges and non-conformances during construction
  • Lead root cause analysis, Issue Review Boards (IRBs), and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) with full traceability and verification
  • Oversee fabrication processes—welding, machining, assembly, and fit-up—ensuring compliance with structural specifications
  • Perform dimensional inspections, structural surveys, and verification of welded joints and assemblies
  • Support autonomous navigation system integration and participate in design reviews

  • Naval Architecture or Marine/Structural Engineering fundamentals
  • CAD software (SolidWorks, NX, Rhino, AutoCAD) and structural cutfile generation
  • Maritime standards: ABS rules, AWS welding standards, US Coast Guard regulations
  • Structural analysis and FEA (finite element analysis)
  • Ship structural design: longitudinal strength, framing, foundations
  • Welding processes, NDT methods, marine-grade materials (steel, aluminum, composites)
  • GD&T, weld symbols, fabrication tolerances, and technical drawing interpretation
  • Cross-functional communication with engineers, fabricators, and quality teams
