About this role
Stratolaunch seeks an experienced Materials & Process Engineer to support their hypersonic testbed operations through materials science expertise, specification development, and qualification testing. The role involves leading failure analysis investigations, managing material selection decisions, and serving as a technical subject matter expert across composite, metallic, and ceramic systems in high-temperature aerospace applications.
What you'll do
- Develop and maintain material specification databases and process specifications for manufacturing (welding, heat treatment, composites, machining, additive manufacturing)
- Lead qualification testing of process specifications to verify reliability and repeatability
- Conduct failure analysis investigations and nonconformance reviews for production issues, identifying root causes and corrective actions
- Serve as Materials & Process subject matter expert for programs, including peer reviews and proposal writing support
- Collaborate with program leaders to balance technical rigor with programmatic constraints and manage Materials & Process-related risks
- Support internal research and development (IRAD) projects in the Materials & Process domain
