About this role
Verkada seeks an embedded video streaming engineer to design and optimize streaming pipelines powering 1M+ deployed security cameras. You'll work across the full stack—from hardware-accelerated video codecs to streaming protocols—ensuring fast, reliable, secure video delivery at scale.
What you'll do
- Design and optimize embedded video encoding and streaming pipelines for camera devices
- Implement and tune hardware-accelerated video codecs (H.264, H.265/HEVC, AV1) for performance and low power consumption
- Build and extend multimedia frameworks like GStreamer and FFmpeg for real-time video capture and delivery
- Integrate and optimize streaming protocols (RTSP, RTP, RTMP, HLS, DASH, WebRTC) for low-latency transport
- Profile and optimize video quality metrics including startup time, latency, and rebuffering
- Debug and resolve issues in encoding pipelines and device resource utilization
