About this role
SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today, SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of making life multiplanetary and expanding consciousness to the stars.
SpaceXSI is building Super Intelligence to help humanity understand the universe. Our teams are building the full Super Intelligence stack: from our Colossus supercomputers, to Grok models, to our suite of applications, including Grok Bot, Grok Build, Grok Imagine, Grok Voice, and X. We're creating a powerful flywheel where more compute trains better models, better models power more useful products, and what we learn from people using those products shapes what we build next.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are seeking a hands-on, safety-focused Megapack Field Technician to support the operation, maintenance, and expansion of our Megapack energy storage fleet powering SpaceXSI's AI infrastructure in Memphis. Working directly with the Energy Storage Asset Manager, you will own the low-voltage side of the fleet, support daily medium-voltage switching operations, and help manage construction and commissioning across multiple sites for one of the largest and most critical battery deployments powering AI training.
This is a full-time, onsite role based in Memphis, Tennessee, with regular travel between Memphis-area sites.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Own the low-voltage (LV) side of the Megapack fleet, including AC and DC LV systems, 480V auxiliary power, breakers, and LV terminations.
- Perform Megapack enable/disable, isolation, and return-to-service procedures in support of maintenance, switching, and construction activities.
- Troubleshoot Megapack-side faults and alarms in the field, gather logs, data, and photos, and drive issues to resolution with OEM field service and support engineering.
- Act as an onsite point of contact for Tesla Field Service technicians, coordinating access, isolations, and work scope to remove blockers and ensure high-quality, timely completion of work.
- Support execution of the daily medium-voltage (MV) switching plan, including de-energizing and re-energizing Megapack strings in coordination with MV electricians, testing contractors, and site operations.
- Perform and verify lockout/tagout (LOTO) and maintain switching and isolation records in accordance with site safety procedures.
- Provide day-to-day oversight of electrical and civil contractors, verifying work against drawings, specifications, and schedule.
- Perform quality checks on LV and MV terminations, installations, and repairs, and document findings for correction and closeout.
- Coordinate installation and commissioning activities for new Megapack deployments and their integration with SpaceXSI facilities.
- Build, track, and close out punch lists, performing field verification before items are closed.
- Use drawings, single-line diagrams, and project management platforms (e.g., Procore) to track RFIs, submittals, and site issues.
- Support transformer issue intake and documentation, and assist with dehumidification and environmental controls during outages and construction.
- Conduct routine site walks and inspections to identify safety, reliability, and serviceability issues before they impact operations.
- Maintain accurate records of field work, switching activity, service events, and equipment status.
- Ensure full compliance with all safety protocols, NFPA 70E requirements, manufacturer guidelines, and local regulations.
- Provide on-call support for urgent operational and maintenance issues as required.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3+ years of field service, commissioning, or maintenance experience on utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) or comparable power infrastructure.
- Hands-on experience with low-voltage AC/DC electrical systems, breakers, and terminations, including safe isolation and verification of energy states.
- Working knowledge of NFPA 70E, arc flash safety, and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Ability to read and work from electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, and equipment documentation.
- Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple contractors and vendors in the field.
- Comfortable working onsite in an industrial/data center and active construction environment.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Utility-scale BESS field service experience (Megapack preferred), including Megapack 2 / 2XL installation, commissioning, service, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with OEM service and diagnostic tools, firmware updates, and site controller workflows.
- Experience supporting medium-voltage switching operations, string energization, or utility/data center switching programs.
- Construction management or field engineering experience, including contractor oversight, QA/QC, punch lists, and Procore or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with pad-mount transformers, medium-voltage cable and terminations, and fire protection standards for energy storage.
- Previous experience in 24/7 operational environments with on-call responsibilities.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Position is subject to pre-employment and annual post-employment background checks.
- Comfortable working in an environment requiring exposure to noise, outdoor weather, and industrial conditions.
- Available to work evenings, weekends, and provide on-call support as needed for urgent operational issues and planned outages.
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds, climb, and work at heights and in confined spaces as required.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel between Memphis-area sites.
