Prototype Engineer - 3D Printing
About this role
1X seeks a Prototype Engineer to manage their 3D printing and prototyping lab in San Carlos, supporting the hardware engineering team developing humanoid robots. You'll own lab operations, coordinate printing requests, maintain equipment, and ensure engineers have everything needed to iterate quickly on NEO's design and development.
What you'll do
- Serve as primary contact for engineers using the prototyping lab and manage 3D printing requests end-to-end
- Prepare CAD files for printing, operate 3D printers, troubleshoot issues, and handle post-processing and part handover
- Maintain lab organization, cleanliness, inventory, tooling, and safe working practices
- Order materials and equipment, anticipate engineering needs, and close gaps in prototyping capabilities
- Support engineers with hands-on prototyping tasks and practical problem-solving
- Maintain and service 3D printers and shared lab equipment to keep operations running smoothly
