Software Engineer, Platform
About this role
AeroVect seeks a Platform Engineer to build and maintain the Linux-based software foundation for autonomous ground handling vehicles. You'll optimize the ROS 2 stack, manage custom Ubuntu distributions, develop hardware drivers for multi-sensor systems, and ensure production-ready reliability across real-time autonomous vehicle workloads.
What you'll do
- Design and maintain custom Ubuntu/Linux distributions for real-time, safety-critical autonomous vehicle operations
- Optimize ROS 2 DDS middleware for low-latency, high-throughput multi-sensor data flows
- Develop and integrate kernel modules and user-space drivers for LiDAR, cameras, radars, GNSS/INS, and CAN interfaces
- Implement observability, logging, and monitoring solutions for system health and performance in lab and field deployments
- Harden production platform with security patches, secure boot, and over-the-air update pipelines
- Own CI/CD pipelines for OS images and drivers; provide on-call support during field trials and customer pilots

- Linux kernel development and configuration (systemd, networking, package management)
- C/C++ and Python programming, including kernel module and driver development
- ROS 2 (or ROS 1) in production or research environments
- Real-time performance tuning and profiling tools (perf, eBPF, tracing)
- Communication protocols and buses (USB, Ethernet, CAN, PCIe, SPI, I2C)
- Docker/OCI containers and automated build systems (Yocto, Buildroot)
- Git version control and CI/CD pipeline management
- Hardware interface debugging and embedded systems optimization
