About this role

Anduril Industries seeks a Thermal Design Engineer to support thermal architecture and analysis for advanced defense systems including drones, aircraft, and missiles. The role combines first-principles heat transfer analysis, FEA/CFD modeling, prototype testing, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure mission-critical hardware performs reliably in demanding environments.

What you'll do

  • Perform thermal design and analysis for integrated defense hardware products using hand calculations, spreadsheets, MATLAB, and Python
  • Build and maintain thermal FEA/CFD models to predict system performance and establish design limits
  • Support prototype builds and thermal testing including sensor selection, data acquisition setup, and results documentation
  • Define thermal architectures for rugged environments and demanding flight conditions in collaboration with electrical and mechanical teams
  • Present thermal analysis results and design recommendations in internal reviews
  • Develop internal tools and workflows to improve thermal decision-making speed and quality

What they're looking for

  • Heat transfer and fluid dynamics (conduction, convection, radiation, transient behavior)
  • Thermal FEA/CFD modeling (ANSYS, STAR-CCM+, Icepak, or Flotherm preferred)
  • MATLAB and Python for engineering analysis
  • CAD tools (SolidWorks or Siemens NX preferred)
  • Thermal testing and data acquisition
  • First-principles engineering judgment and hand calculations
  • Technical communication to cross-functional teams
