About this role
Anduril Industries seeks a Thermal Engineer to design and manage thermal systems for advanced defense electronics across air vehicles, maritime, ground systems, and wearables. You'll apply heat transfer and fluid dynamics expertise to ensure mission-critical hardware operates reliably in extreme environments, combining first-principles analysis with prototype testing and FEA/CFD modeling.
What you'll do
- Own thermal design and analysis of electronic assemblies from component to full-system level across multiple product platforms
- Define thermal architecture and heat-rejection strategies using conduction, convection, heat pipes, cold plates, and thermal interface materials
- Develop and own thermal FEA/CFD models; establish design limits and predict system performance
- Execute prototype builds, thermal testing, sensor selection, data acquisition, and post-processing to verify designs
- Conduct trade studies balancing thermal margin against size, weight, and power constraints with cross-functional teams
- Present thermal status at formal reviews, support failure analysis, and develop internal tools to improve analysis efficiency

- Thermal FEA/CFD tools (ANSYS, STAR-CCM+, FloEFD, COMSOL, or Icepak)
- Electronics cooling concepts (TIMs, heat sinks, heat pipes, cold plates)
- CAD software (Siemens NX, SolidWorks, or equivalent)
- Thermal testing, sensor selection, and data acquisition
- Python or MATLAB for thermal modeling and analysis
- MIL-STD-810 and aerospace environmental standards
- Active cooling systems (fans, liquid cooling, TECs)
