About this role

Antares, a venture-backed advanced nuclear energy company, seeks a Materials Engineer to develop and qualify materials for mass-producible microreactors used in terrestrial, underwater, and space applications. You'll design testing protocols, characterize material behavior under extreme conditions, and collaborate across engineering teams to ensure materials meet reactor performance requirements.

What you'll do

  • Develop and conduct lifetime testing and qualification of reactor materials including ceramics and metallic alloys
  • Design and execute physical, thermal, and mechanical testing that replicates reactor operating environments
  • Apply statistical methods to evaluate effects of process variables and environmental conditions on material properties
  • Perform materials characterization and root cause failure analysis
  • Interface with manufacturing, neutronics, mechanical, and quality teams to integrate materials into systems and optimize processes
