About this role
Anthropic seeks an Applied AI Engineer to deploy Claude across life sciences research institutions, partnering with organizations like HHMI and the Allen Institute to build AI-powered tools that accelerate scientific discovery. You'll develop production systems, create reusable ecosystem infrastructure like MCP servers and benchmarks, and translate real-world deployment challenges into product improvements.
What you'll do
- Partner with flagship life sciences institutions to understand workflows and build integrated production systems with their engineering teams
- Develop reusable MCP servers, agent skills, and benchmarks for genomics, literature databases, and experimental platforms that other institutions can adopt
- Identify deployment challenges in life sciences (data heterogeneity, auditability, prototype-to-production gaps) and communicate findings to product and research teams
- Create technical documentation and self-serve resources to enable partner institutions to scale solutions independently
- Prototype and deploy AI agents that fit seamlessly into existing scientific research pipelines
- Drive projects from early exploration through production deployment with deep scientific institution partnerships

- LLM application development (prompting, context engineering, agent architectures)
- Production software engineering and deployment experience
- Life sciences domain knowledge (genomics, neuroscience, drug discovery, biomedical research, or scientific computing)
- MCP server development and ecosystem tooling design
- Evaluation frameworks and benchmarking for AI systems
- Technical documentation and knowledge transfer
- Ability to work ambiguously and drive projects from scratch
