San Francisco, CA | New York City, NY | Seattle, WAFrom $485kmidAdded today

About this role

Anthropic is building a custom silicon team and seeks experienced chip designers to lead end-to-end silicon development across domains like front-end design, verification, physical design, and analog circuits. You'll own critical technical decisions, partner with external foundries and IP vendors, and drive hardware-software co-design for AI accelerators.

What you'll do

  • Lead end-to-end silicon program activities including strategy, specification, execution, and technical standards
  • Write and maintain specifications and interface definitions that guide architecture and design decisions
  • Make and own directional calls on technology selection, build-vs-buy decisions, and design authority allocation
  • Partner with inference, performance, kernels, and infrastructure teams on hardware-software co-design
  • Contribute domain perspective to chip architecture discussions, including identifying cross-domain tradeoffs
  • Support first-silicon bring-up and debug activities across all design domains

What they're looking for

  • Deep hands-on expertise in one silicon domain (front-end, verification, physical design, analog, DFT, CAD, or packaging)
  • Demonstrated ownership of taped-out and shipped silicon with detailed technical accountability
  • Working fluency in adjacent silicon domains to reason about chip-level tradeoffs
  • Experience managing external partners (ASIC houses, IP vendors, foundries, test partners)
  • Track record owning consequential technical decisions and their consequences
  • Practical experience with AI coding tools and clear perspective on their limitations
  • Strong written and verbal communication with cross-team and cross-organizational alignment skills
  • Ability to operate with high autonomy in dynamic, rapidly changing programs

Likely interview questions

  • Walk us through a silicon project you shipped: what was your specific ownership, what went wrong, and how did you handle it?
  • Describe a time you made a directional call (technology choice, build-vs-buy, partner selection) that had real consequences—what was the decision and how did it turn out?
