Mechanical Engineer, Payloads
About this role
Apex seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design and integrate payload hardware for commercial satellite buses. You'll manage mechanical systems from concept through launch, working cross-functionally with structures, thermal, avionics, and manufacturing teams to deliver flight-ready hardware.
What you'll do
- Design payload mechanical hardware, mounting structures, brackets, and enclosures using CAD
- Own payload integration across full development lifecycle: concept, design, manufacturing, assembly, and testing
- Define and manage mechanical interfaces between payloads and spacecraft subsystems
- Perform structural analysis and hand calculations to verify strength, stiffness, mass, and environmental requirements
- Develop engineering drawings, GD&T specifications, interface control documentation, and hardware specs
- Support hands-on assembly, integration, and environmental testing including vibration, shock, and thermal vacuum
