Mission Security Engineer
About this role
Apex is seeking a Mission Security Engineer to own the authorization and cybersecurity posture of satellite buses and classified cloud mission operations systems. You will manage RMF documentation, control tailoring, continuous monitoring, and authorization packages for both a multi-decade space vehicle and a dynamic classified mission control environment that commands and controls spacecraft.
What you'll do
- Build and sustain RMF authorization packages including system descriptions, boundary definitions, control selection, and residual risk assessments for space and cloud segments
- Own plan of action and milestones (POA&M) and maintain authorization system of record (eMASS or equivalent)
- Define authorization boundaries and categorize systems under CNSSI 1253, applying space overlays and aerospace cybersecurity profiles with tailored rationale
- Derive verifiable security requirements from threat models using SPARTA TTPs and translate engineering artifacts into assessment evidence
- Design type-authorization for satellite bus fleet to enable scalable conformance evidence generation across multiple vehicles
- Implement controls-as-code for classified cloud mission operations and manage continuous monitoring without impacting operational contact windows
