Applied Intuition
Robot Infrastructure Engineer - Collection Tooling
About this role
Applied Intuition seeks a Robot Infrastructure Engineer to design and build teleoperation systems, data collection workflows, and quality validation tools that transform robot demonstrations into reliable training data. You'll work hands-on with real hardware to ensure seamless capture, processing, and ingestion of multimodal robot learning data across the company's physical AI platform.
What you'll do
- Build teleoperation interfaces and operator tools for leader arms, VR, and other control systems with proper calibration and latency handling
- Design episode workflows including task instructions, resets, annotations, success labeling, and human takeover mechanisms
- Implement collection quality checks for frame drops, timestamp alignment, sensor gaps, and calibration validity with actionable operator feedback
- Create collection specifications and adapters to validate external partner data against task requirements and schemas
- Establish raw recordings as source of truth with reproducible normalization and export pipelines to training formats
- Develop progress tracking and coverage visualization tools to guide collection of missing variations and edge cases
What they're looking for
- Python and software engineering fundamentals (APIs, testing, versioned schemas)
- Data collection and teleoperation systems on real robots or autonomous hardware
- Multimodal time-series data handling (synchronized video, robot state, actions)
- Coordinate frames, sensor calibration, and data provenance
- Data pipeline debugging and validation
- Tools design for end-user usability and data quality
- Cross-functional collaboration with learning, hardware, and operations teams

Likely interview questions
- Describe a time you built teleoperation or data collection tooling for a real robotic system—what were the main failure modes and how did you address them?
- How would you design quality checks to catch timestamp misalignment or frame drops in a multimodal dataset, and how would you communicate those issues to operators?
