About this role
Assort Health is seeking a Research Engineer to develop and deploy healthcare AI models powering conversational voice agents that transform patient-doctor interactions. You'll own end-to-end model research, optimization, and production deployment while working with a rapidly scaling team that's raised $222M and serves hundreds of millions of patient interactions.
What you'll do
- Lead research and engineering to improve conversational capabilities including instruction following, tool calling, retrieval, and memory in production systems
- Investigate speech and audio research questions through hypothesis-driven experiments and model behavior analysis
- Build and iterate on end-to-end AI models and pipelines optimized for quality, efficiency, and user experience
- Design evaluation protocols and benchmarks measuring model quality, generalization, robustness, and research progress
- Partner with platform and product engineers to integrate new models into production healthcare systems
- Analyze datasets, model outputs, and failure cases to guide next-generation model development
