About this role

Atom Computing seeks an Optical Engineer to design and build opto-mechanical subsystems for quantum computers using neutral atoms. You'll collaborate with physicists and mechanical engineers to develop laser distribution, microscope imaging, and optical cavity systems, from concept through precision assembly and testing.

What you'll do

  • Design optical subsystems for laser distribution, high-NA imaging, and optical cavities in collaboration with cross-functional teams
  • Perform tolerance analysis and stray light evaluation to validate optical designs
  • Develop and document alignment procedures for optical assemblies
  • Conduct hands-on assembly, precision alignment, and performance characterization of optical subsystems
  • Create detailed specifications and technical drawings using 3D CAD software
  • Evaluate design trade-offs and recommend solutions balancing competing engineering requirements
