About this role

Base seeks a Network Engineer to design and operate the network infrastructure for a distributed GPU compute fleet deployed across hundreds of battery storage sites. You'll architect site connectivity, manage fiber and carrier strategy, build secure overlay networks, and support field deployments—making critical decisions that will carry production inference traffic within months.

What you'll do

  • Design and standardize end-to-end network architecture for distributed compute sites, including routing, switching, firewall, and out-of-band management
  • Evaluate and execute fiber and carrier strategy (dark fiber vs. lit services, build vs. lease) across site clusters
  • Build and automate fleet overlay networks with secure site-to-site and site-to-cloud connectivity, BGP routing, and configuration management
  • Implement monitoring and security across latency, throughput, packet loss, and circuit health; define segmentation between compute, battery control, and management planes
  • Lead field site bring-ups and installations, then reduce on-site involvement as processes scale
  • Manage carrier relationships, circuit procurement, and failover strategies across fiber, fixed wireless, and cellular
