Software Engineer, State Estimation & Localization
About this role
Bedrock is seeking a Software Engineer to develop state-estimation and localization systems for autonomous construction equipment. You'll design and deploy algorithms that fuse sensor data from GNSS, IMUs, lidar, and machine systems to enable precise positioning and safe operation in real-world, dynamic environments.
What you'll do
- Design and deploy state-estimation algorithms combining GNSS, IMU, lidar, and machine-sensor data for real-time position and motion estimates
- Improve system reliability through sensor monitoring, fault detection, confidence estimation, and graceful degradation
- Build ground-truth systems, offline estimators, and regression tests to measure performance and identify failures
- Handle asynchronous and intermittent sensor measurements, addressing delays and out-of-order data
- Diagnose issues using field data, replay systems, and simulation, then validate fixes on physical machines
- Collaborate with controls, perception, safety, and hardware teams to optimize the complete autonomy system
