Bedrock Robotics
Systems Engineer, Safety
About this role
Bedrock seeks a Systems Engineer with functional safety expertise to architect safety-critical systems for autonomous construction equipment. You'll decompose system requirements across hardware, software, and mechanical domains while embedding safety analysis and verification from the ground up, working cross-functionally to balance performance and safety tradeoffs.
What you'll do
- Develop system-level requirements and metrics with emphasis on safety performance
- Lead or contribute to safety analyses (HARA, FMEA, STPA, FTA) and translate findings into actionable requirements
- Define and maintain system architecture and interface requirements across hardware, software, and mechanical subsystems
- Design safety mechanisms including redundancy, diagnostics, watchdogs, and graceful degradation, then verify implementation
- Participate in cross-disciplinary design reviews focusing on failure modes and safety-relevant interfaces
- Collaborate with V&V lead on verification and validation planning, and support root cause analysis for safety-relevant field issues
What they're looking for
- Functional safety (ISO 13849, ISO 26262, IEC 61508)
- Systems engineering and requirements decomposition
- Safety analysis methods (HARA, FMEA, STPA, FTA)
- Verification and validation methodologies
- Cross-functional communication and technical trade study development
- Safety mechanism design (redundancy, fault detection, diagnostics)
- Data-driven system understanding and prioritization
- Autonomous and robotic systems (preferred)
