About this role

Blank Metal seeks a senior Forward Deployed Engineer to embed with enterprise clients, translate strategic AI opportunities into production systems, and own outcomes end-to-end. You'll balance technical leadership with executive engagement, building agents and agentic systems alongside a lean team while traveling 25–40% to client sites.

What you'll do

  • Partner with client executives to identify high-value AI opportunities and scope proof-of-concept work that de-risks full engagements
  • Lead technical architecture and design decisions; own the code, hard calls, and deployment of production AI systems
  • Build and deploy MCP servers, sub-agents, agent skills, and supporting pipelines across full-stack and model layers
  • Navigate enterprise environments including IT systems, security constraints, and stakeholder buy-in
  • Establish observability and evaluation frameworks clients can verify; drive adoption by end users
  • Carry accounts end-to-end from discovery through live operation; distill patterns for future engagements

What they're looking for

  • 7+ years shipping production software with technical leadership credibility among executives
  • Hands-on mastery of Python and TypeScript/JavaScript; ability to learn client tech stacks quickly
  • Production experience with LLM agents, retrieval systems, evaluation frameworks, and agentic orchestration
  • End-to-end ownership of production systems from design through operations
  • Clear communication of complex technical decisions in business language
  • Comfort with ambiguity, small teams, and shipping without a playbook
  • Founder or early-stage technical leadership experience (CTO, first engineer)
  • Bonus: healthcare or private equity domain expertise
