Varda Space Industries
Mission Software Engineer II
About this role
Varda seeks a Mission Software Engineer II to develop and maintain ground segment software for spacecraft operations, including telemetry systems, mission control interfaces, and deployment infrastructure. You'll work across simulation, test automation, and real-time operational environments to support the company's in-orbit pharmaceutical processing and reentry vehicle missions.
What you'll do
- Develop high-reliability ground segment services for telemetry ingestion, scaling, distribution, and spacecraft commanding
- Design operator-grade mission control UIs and dashboards optimized for integration, testing, and on-orbit operations
- Build simulation and test automation tools for flight software, device emulators, and scenario-based testing
- Design and implement mission platform infrastructure including CI/CD pipelines, artifact management, and infrastructure-as-code
- Create robust deployment patterns for lab, test range, and mission operations environments with safe rollout/rollback strategies
- Standardize service templates, observability tools, and hardware-in-the-loop frameworks as self-service tooling
What they're looking for
- Python development with strong language fundamentals
- Spacecraft or safety-critical software development (3+ years)
- Real-time systems and deterministic behavior engineering
- CI/CD pipeline design and infrastructure automation
- Mission control system architecture and UI/UX design
- Test automation and simulation frameworks
- Deployment strategies for air-gapped and limited-connectivity environments
- Telemetry systems and command & control architectures
