About this role
Block's Financial Platform Engineering team seeks a Software Engineer to design and build backend services powering foundational financial operations across the company. You'll architect scalable infrastructure for accounting, reporting, and compliance while leveraging AI agents throughout the development lifecycle to transform complex financial requirements into robust technology solutions.
What you'll do
- Design and implement backend services for accounting, FP&A, tax, and procurement operations with compliance requirements
- Lead migration of business-critical workflows from legacy vendor platforms to internal systems with zero disruption
- Build configurable workflow engines, rules-based routing, and event-driven automation systems
- Design and maintain end-to-end integrations with external systems using APIs, event streams, and messaging patterns
- Partner with operations, compliance, and product teams to translate financial and regulatory requirements into technical solutions
- Architect systems with audit trails, access controls, and data governance to meet regulatory requirements
