About this role

Block's Justice Engineering team seeks a full-stack software engineer to design and maintain systems that automate legal request handling, including subpoena processing, data assembly, and account management. You'll work across backend services, internal tools, and data pipelines while collaborating with legal and compliance teams to translate regulatory requirements into reliable, automated workflows.

What you'll do

  • Design, develop, test, and ship features that automate Block's response to legal and regulatory requests
  • Build and maintain production microservices and event-driven systems handling sensitive customer data
  • Develop internal web tools and integrate them with upstream systems across Block
  • Translate legal and compliance requirements into concrete automated workflows with Counsel and Operations teams
  • Participate in operational ownership including on-call, incident response, and postmortems
  • Modernize and reduce toil in existing services while maintaining reliability and data integrity

  • Full-stack software development (backend services and frontend interfaces)
  • Microservice and event-driven architecture design
  • Ruby on Rails, Java, Kotlin, or similar backend languages
  • React and TypeScript for frontend development
  • AWS cloud infrastructure and databases (MySQL, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redis)
  • Kafka and asynchronous messaging systems
  • Handling sensitive data (PII, PCI) with security and privacy best practices
  • AI-powered developer tools and LLM integration
