About this role

Brain Co. is seeking a Backend Engineer to build production-grade infrastructure powering their AI platform for enterprise and government clients. You'll own systems end-to-end—from architecture to deployment—solving complex technical challenges while working with world-class teams from Tesla, DeepMind, and similar organizations.

What you'll do

  • Design and implement modular, scalable backend architectures and APIs (REST, gRPC, event-driven) for enterprise and government environments
  • Own full lifecycle of systems including architecture, implementation, deployment, and long-term maintenance
  • Break down open-ended problems from first principles and ship production-ready solutions with speed and rigor
  • Optimize system performance through profiling and iterative improvements in latency, throughput, and cost efficiency
  • Partner with Product, ML, Infrastructure, and customer-facing teams to build reliable, developer-friendly systems
  • Manage operational excellence including observability, incident response, and uptime responsibility

What they're looking for

  • Distributed systems fundamentals (consistency, availability, failure modes, retries, idempotency)
  • Production backend development in Go, TypeScript, Rust, Python, or similar languages
  • API design and service architecture at scale
  • Observability tooling (metrics, logging, tracing) and incident response
  • Kubernetes and cloud-native deployment
  • AI/ML platforms or inference systems
  • Multi-tenant and regulated environment experience
  • Real-time or streaming data systems
