R&D Production Test Engineer
About this role
Commonwealth Fusion Systems seeks an R&D Production Test Engineer to design, build, and execute high voltage testing campaigns for superconducting magnets used in fusion reactors. This role focuses on Paschen effect phenomena in vacuum environments and root cause analysis to support SPARC and ARC magnet production, integration, and commissioning.
What you'll do
- Design and build high voltage test equipment and software for superconducting magnet systems in vacuum conditions
- Execute and develop test campaigns focused on Paschen effect and high voltage transient protection schemes
- Lead root cause and corrective action analysis (RCCA) efforts to resolve magnet-related issues during production and commissioning
- Collaborate across manufacturing, R&D, procurement, and SPARC integration teams to support aggressive project schedules
- Challenge and refine test requirements, risks, and objectives with stakeholders to ensure essential data collection
- Support tokamak integration and commissioning activities for fusion power plant systems
