About this role

Clay seeks a Backend Software Engineer to build and maintain the infrastructure and platform systems powering its AI-driven growth platform. You'll own execution engines, scheduling, data storage, and shared foundations that enable product teams to scale reliably while handling millions of customer workflows.

What you'll do

  • Design and optimize distributed systems for scale, reliability, and performance under increasing concurrency
  • Build platform primitives and abstractions that product teams extend rather than fork
  • Own execution and orchestration systems including work scheduling, retries, and observability
  • Solve database contention, memory pressure, and throughput bottlenecks
  • Implement comprehensive instrumentation and logging for system visibility at scale
  • Handle integration challenges and edge cases between platform components
