DevOps Engineer
About this role
Colonist seeks an experienced DevOps Engineer to own and strengthen their infrastructure serving millions of active players on a digital board game platform. You'll manage Kubernetes clusters, automate deployments, operate critical databases and message brokers, and establish documentation-first practices across a fully remote, asynchronous team.
What you'll do
- Own end-to-end Kubernetes infrastructure across dev, staging, and production environments
- Manage cloud resources and infrastructure as code using Terraform on DigitalOcean
- Operate PostgreSQL, Redis, and NATS under production traffic with performance optimization and safe migrations
- Implement observability across Sentry and New Relic; consolidate and improve monitoring coverage
- Respond to incidents, drive root cause analysis, and create postmortems to prevent recurring issues
- Build self-service infrastructure paths and guardrails enabling other engineers to deploy confidently

- Kubernetes production operations (rollouts, autoscaling, networking, debugging)
- Infrastructure as code (Terraform)
- PostgreSQL and Redis administration under load
- Message broker operation (NATS or equivalent)
- Linux, Docker, and CI/CD systems
- Cloudflare edge configuration and management
- Incident debugging across logs, metrics, databases, and edge
- Technical documentation and async written communication
