Crusoe
Staff Commissioning Engineer, Electrical
About this role
Crusoe is on a mission to accelerate the abundance of energy and intelligence. As the only vertically integrated AI infrastructure company built from the ground up, we own and operate each layer of the stack — from electrons to tokens — to power the world's most ambitious AI workloads. When you join Crusoe, you join a team that is building the future, faster.
We're in the midst of the greatest industrial revolution of our time. The demand for AI compute is boundless, and power is a bottleneck. We're solving that — with an energy-first approach that makes AI infrastructure better for the world and faster for the people innovating with AI.
We're looking for problem-solving, opportunity-finding teammates with a sense of urgency, who believe in the scale of our ambition and thrive on a path not fully paved — people who want to grow their careers alongside a team of experts across energy, manufacturing, data center construction, and cloud services.
If you want to do the most meaningful work of your career, help our customers and partners advance their AI strategies, and be part of a high-performing team that believes in each other, come build with us at Crusoe.
As a Staff Commissioning Engineer on the Spark team, you will own commissioning for these modules. That covers factory testing in Brighton, integrated systems testing, and formal turnover to operations. You will build the test standards, procedures, and quality gates that let every module ship ready to energize and come online quickly at the site. You will be the technical authority for Electrical and controls commissioning across the Spark fleet, and you will turn lessons from each deployment into improvements in module design, manufacturing, and the commissioning program itself. This is a full-time role.
What You'll Be Working On
Commissioning Program Ownership: Own the Spark commissioning program end to end. Define how L1–L5 activities split between the factory and the site, and build standardized Cx plans, test scripts, and turnover packages that scale across a fleet of modules.
Factory Testing: Lead factory acceptance and integration testing of electrical and controls systems at the Brighton factory so every module meets specification before it ships.
Quality Gates: Set first-article inspection, in-process quality checks, and ship-readiness criteria with manufacturing and quality teams. Hold shipment when a module does not meet them.
Site Integration and IST: Oversee installation validation, startup, and integrated systems testing at deployment sites. Verify that modules connect correctly to site power, cooling, and network infrastructure.
Design and Manufacturing Feedback: Track commissioning issues across builds, identify root causes, and drive fixes into module design, supplier quality, and factory processes.
Vendor and CxA Management: Manage third-party commissioning agents and equipment suppliers, including scope, schedule, deliverables, and factory witness testing of purchased components.
Technical Escalation: Serve as the primary escalation point for electrical issues in the factory and in the field, from troubleshooting through formal closure.
Cross-Functional Leadership: Align engineering, manufacturing, construction, controls, and operations teams on commissioning scope, roles, and readiness milestones.
Operations Handover: Deliver complete, accurate turnover documentation. Support the transition to operations through training coordination and post-handover support.
Safety and Compliance: Enforce safety, compliance, and regulatory requirements across factory and site commissioning activities.
What You'll Bring to the Team
Experience: 5-7+ years in data center commissioning, construction, or critical infrastructure delivery, including ownership of commissioning programs across multiple projects.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; equivalent commissioning experience considered.
Commissioning Depth: Expert knowledge of L1–L5 commissioning and the documentation and testing requirements at each level.
Working knowledge of electrical distribution (switchgear, UPS, PDUs)
Hands-on commissioning experience with data center infrastructure.
Factory Testing: Experience developing and running factory acceptance or factory witness testing for prefabricated, skid-mounted, or modular equipment.
Technical Documentation: Ability to review and interpret construction drawings, P&IDs, single-line diagrams, sequences of operation, submittals, and test procedures.
Vendor Accountability: Track record managing third-party commissioning agents and holding suppliers accountable to scope, schedule, and quality.
Travel: Willingness to travel to the Brighton factory and deployment sites as required (up to 75%).
Bonus Points
CxA, CCP, or equivalent commissioning certification.
Experience commissioning in a manufacturing or production-line environment, or scaling a commissioning process from first article to volume production.
Experience with high-density AI and GPU compute deployments.
Experience building digital commissioning tools, test automation, or systems for tracking test results across a fleet.
