About this role

HRL Laboratories seeks a Design & Optical Test Engineer to develop and validate quantum communications systems through optical and optoelectronic experimentation. You'll design free-space and fiber-optic setups, fabricate semiconductor devices, and collaborate with R&D teams to advance next-generation quantum photonic technologies in support of aerospace and defense missions.

What you'll do

  • Design, build, and test optical experiments for quantum communications systems and platforms
  • Model and setup free-space and fiber-optic experiments with rigorous data collection and analysis
  • Design and support fabrication of state-of-the-art semiconductor devices
  • Troubleshoot complex optical, mechanical, and electrical systems with cross-functional teams
  • Improve experimental processes and present findings to scientists and engineers
  • Perform measurements and data analysis to advance quantum photonic device development
