About this role
Flock Safety seeks an Embedded Software Engineer II to develop and maintain the embedded Linux platform powering their custom hardware and drones used in public safety. You'll write optimized C/C++ code, handle on-device testing and debugging, and contribute to a security-focused platform supporting crime prevention and missing persons investigations.
What you'll do
- Develop core components for Yocto-based embedded Linux platform
- Write and optimize C/C++ code for resource-constrained hardware and real-time applications
- Perform on-device testing and debugging to ensure software stability
- Document technical designs, architectures, and test plans
- Troubleshoot software defects and hardware integration issues
- Provide work estimates and communicate progress throughout development
What they're looking for
- C/C++ development and debugging in Linux
- Yocto Project or similar build systems (Buildroot, OpenEmbedded)
- Low-level concepts: bootloaders, shell scripting, kernel configuration
- Git/GitHub and CI/CD workflows (Jenkins/GitHub Actions)
- Embedded Linux systems design
- Hardware bring-up and diagnostics
- Python or Bash scripting
- ARM-based architectures
