FluidStack
Mechanical Engineer, Power Generation
About this role
Fluidstack seeks a Mechanical Engineer to own the specification, integration, and lifecycle management of rotating equipment (turbines, engines, generators) for distributed power generation in AI data centers. You'll engineer mechanical packages, conduct factory and site acceptance testing, and drive fleet reliability across a rapidly scaling infrastructure platform.
What you'll do
- Specify, evaluate, and integrate rotating equipment including turbines, engines, and generators for behind-the-meter power generation
- Design and engineer mechanical packages including skids, auxiliaries, vibration, and alignment requirements
- Conduct factory and site acceptance testing, validate vendor performance against specifications
- Root-cause and engineer solutions for rotating equipment reliability issues in the operational fleet
- Hold vendors accountable to performance curves and technical commitments
- Support commissioning and integration of power generation systems into data center operations
What they're looking for
- Rotating equipment engineering (gas turbines, reciprocating engines, compressors, large pumps)
- Equipment specification and vendor technical evaluation
- Vibration analysis and condition monitoring interpretation
- Factory and site acceptance test execution
- Mechanical design (skids, auxiliaries, alignment, vibration isolation)
- API standards and power generation industry practices
- Root cause failure analysis and reliability engineering
- Power plant commissioning and startup procedures

Likely interview questions
- Walk us through a time you specified rotating equipment for a critical application—how did you evaluate vendor options and what criteria drove your decision?
- Describe a rotating equipment failure you've investigated in the field. How did you root-cause it and what design changes did you implement?
