Zipline is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Ground Systems team and lead the design of their large-scale, welded steel towers that support drone docking and charging infrastructure. This role involves owning the entire system and subassembly design, collaborating cross-functionally, and iterating rapidly to ensure reliability and scalability for their global drone delivery operations. The ideal candidate possesses strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, a proven track record of bringing complex products to production, and a passion for solving real-world challenges.

What you'll do

  • Design structural components, mechanisms, and electronics integration for tower systems.
  • Own the design of the entire tower system and subassemblies.
  • Collaborate with electrical, software, civil, NPI, and supply chain teams.
  • Iterate and downselect designs based on analysis and test results.
  • Ensure designs are manufacturable and meet reliability targets.
  • Maintain BOMs and create SOPs for builds.
