Formic
Mechanical Design Engineer
About this role
Formic seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to own the full lifecycle of electromechanical automation systems—from concept and SolidWorks design through commissioning and fleet deployment. You'll design palletizing, material handling, and end-of-arm tooling solutions while partnering across engineering disciplines to ensure production-ready systems that scale across the customer base.
What you'll do
- Design and release mechanical automation systems (palletizing, case packing, conveyor, material handling, EOAT) from concept through SolidWorks CAD and BOM management
- Create and maintain detailed mechanical documentation including 3D models, drawings, exploded diagrams, BOMs, schematics, SOPs, and work instructions
- Build, integrate, and commission electromechanical automation systems on the floor, validating performance and troubleshooting issues
- Develop and manage organized SolidWorks model structures, assembly hierarchies, and controlled release processes with revision control
- Lead technical aspects of assigned automation projects, ensuring milestones, specifications, and delivery timelines are met
- Support design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) practices in collaboration with internal and external partners
What they're looking for
- SolidWorks 3D CAD design and modeling
- Mechanical design of industrial automation systems
- End-of-arm tooling (EOAT) design and implementation
- Technical documentation and drawing creation
- Systems integration and troubleshooting
- Project management and cross-functional collaboration
- Design for manufacturability (DFM) and assembly (DFA)
- Hands-on assembly, testing, and commissioning
