About this role

Formlabs seeks an R&D Engineer to develop and advance 3D printing technologies, working across mechanical, software, and systems disciplines to innovate next-generation printers and materials. You'll design experiments, analyze data, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve printing processes and validate new techniques.

What you'll do

  • Design and conduct experiments to develop new 3D printing techniques and validate printer improvements
  • Build test fixtures and perform data analysis to inform hardware and software design decisions
  • Investigate emerging technologies and printer architectures for next-generation systems
  • Evaluate current printer performance and identify optimization opportunities
  • Partner with mechanical, software, and systems engineers to implement improvements to products
  • Develop improvements such as support structure algorithms based on experimental findings

  • CAD modeling and mechanical design
  • Mechatronics and systems thinking
  • Test fixture design and fabrication
  • Galvo control and optical systems (preferred)
  • Manufacturing or regulatory standards knowledge (bonus)
  • 3D printing materials and technologies experience (bonus)
