Software Engineer I, Mission Software

About this role

Vast seeks a Software Engineer to develop mission-critical software systems for next-generation commercial space stations. You'll design and build full-stack web applications, backends, and data pipelines that support human-rated spacecraft operations in a rapidly growing aerospace company.

What you'll do

• Design and implement web applications with modern frontends and application servers consuming APIs and microservices
• Develop backends including data modeling, API design, and supporting data pipelines
• Rapidly iterate on tooling and create new applications as the company scales
• Establish software practices and patterns to support a large codebase and distributed team
• Work on ambiguous, complex problems in a space systems context

What they're looking for

• Full-stack web development (frontend and backend)
• Docker and Kubernetes containerization
• React, Next.js, Vue, or similar modern frontend frameworks
• Node.js and multiple programming languages
• REST, GraphQL, or RPC API design
• SQL and time series databases
• Terraform or Helm infrastructure tools
• Monitoring, observability, and instrumentation
