About this role
Ginkgo Bioworks seeks a Software Engineer III to design and maintain robust drivers for lab automation hardware within their Catalyst software platform. You'll develop Python and C#/.NET drivers for robotic systems, handle hardware communication protocols, and provide field support to ensure reliable autonomous lab operations.
What you'll do
- Design and implement high-performance software drivers in Python and C#/.NET for lab automation equipment like robotic arms and liquid handlers
- Implement low-level hardware communication protocols including RS-232, USB, and TCP/IP
- Develop comprehensive automated unit and integration tests and hardware simulation environments
- Collaborate with scientists and QA teams to validate driver performance against scientific requirements
- Provide Tier 2 technical support for field issues at customer sites with remote diagnostics and troubleshooting
- Design device abstraction layers and proactively improve driver reliability based on user feedback
