About this role

Motive seeks a Telematics Coverage Engineer to expand vehicle telemetry data capture across diverse vehicle architectures. You'll research OEM systems, analyze vehicle networks, and develop approaches to unlock valuable data through debugging, reverse engineering, and live vehicle testing.

What you'll do

  • Research vehicle network signals and OEM telematics data to identify valuable telemetry parameters
  • Analyze wiring diagrams and OEM documentation to determine data-access strategies
  • Connect to vehicle networks, capture logs, and document findings for engineering teams
  • Perform live vehicle debugging, data scraping, and reverse engineering to expand coverage
  • Travel to customer locations to interface with vehicles and validate solutions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive vehicle coverage initiatives

  • Automotive vehicle network analysis (CAN, J1939, OBD-II, UDS)
  • C, C++, or Python programming
  • Physical debugging tools (multimeters, oscilloscopes, scan tools)
  • Reverse-engineering tools (Vehicle Spy, PCAN, SavvyCAN)
  • OEM documentation and wiring diagram interpretation
  • Automotive standards (SAE J1979, J1939, ISO 15765, WWH-OBD)
  • Vehicle telematics systems experience
  • Hardware interfacing and hands-on vehicle diagnostics
