Humanoid
Robotics Controls Engineer
About this role
Humanoid is seeking a Controls Engineer to build testing, validation, and observability infrastructure for their humanoid robot platform. You'll own hardware-in-the-loop testing, failure analysis tooling, new hardware bring-up, and documentation that enables the controls team to validate changes with confidence before deployment.
What you'll do
- Design and implement hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and integration test workflows to quantify controller accuracy and motion repeatability
- Define repeatability and accuracy metrics for control changes and build test harnesses ensuring consistent measurements across robots
- Develop automated regression testing in simulation and on real hardware to catch controls regressions early
- Lead first-time bring-up of new hardware components and validate end-to-end integration on physical robots
- Instrument the controls stack with logging, tracing, and diagnostic tools to improve runtime observability and failure analysis
- Create and maintain engineering documentation, runbooks, and bring-up guides for self-service validation and troubleshooting
What they're looking for
- Control theory (PID, feedforward, impedance control, state estimation, filtering, stability analysis)
- Modern C++ in real-time control systems
- Python for test automation, data analysis, and tooling
- Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and integration test infrastructure
- Hands-on robotics experience with physical hardware debugging
- Measurement science and statistical analysis (sampling, noise, timing synchronization)
- Cross-stack debugging (software, firmware, and hardware)
- Test automation and continuous integration practices

- Describe a time you built test infrastructure that other engineers actually used regularly—what made it valuable to them?
- Walk us through how you'd define and measure 'accuracy' and 'repeatability' for a joint-space controller, and how you'd catch regressions automatically.
